This fall, world tango champions will gather in Seoul, South Korea, to communicate and share their passion through tango.
The K-TANGO Organizing Committee announced that the 2024 K-Tango SF (Society & Festival), themed as a festival of communication and harmony through tango, will take place from September 26 (Thursday) to 29 (Sunday) across various locations in Seoul. The event has been selected as part of the Seoul City Private Festival Support Project and is sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
A special performance will be held on September 26 (Thursday) at Yonsei University’s Grand Auditorium, featuring top tango artists from over 15 countries, including Argentina tango champions, tango orchestras, and tango singers. The event will showcase a high-level tango stage along with a traditional Korean artist’ offering a unique collaboration of tango and tradition. Tickets for the tango special performance, valued at 100,000 KRW, will be distributed to the first 100 attendees through an official Instagram event, so they encourage everyone to show interest.
Additionally, on September 29 (Sunday), the Hangang Tango Festival will be conducted in collaboration with the Hangang Walking Festival. A milonga open to tango enthusiasts from both Korea and abroad will take place, along with performances by 12 domestic tango clubs featuring over 160 participants, as well as a high-quality 'Tango Gala Concert' by tango champions from 15 countries. For citizens interested in tango, a 'Tango One-Day Class' will also be available for on-site participation.
Other festival programs include a Korea Unique Venue Tour organized for foreign visitors on September 28 (Saturday) to promote Seoul, and the Seoul Milonga Day on September 27-28 (Saturday) for local and international tango enthusiasts. K-TANGO Organizng Committee Chairman Jun Hyun-wook expressed, “We have prepared a variety of programs to make tango more accessible to citizens who may find it unfamiliar. We hope many people take this opportunity to experience tango and fall in love with its charm.
